An electronic signature or E-signature is an electronic indication of a person&rsquos intent to accept the content of a document or data linked to the signature. An electronic signature does exactly like a classic handwritten signature. With its increased emphasis on improving the ease of doing business streamlining the storage of records and improving the safety, security, and cost-effectiveness of records, the Government of India has promoted the use of digital technologies by Indian citizens and corporations.
Why is E-signature important?
As electronic signatures are easily transportable, cannot be imitated by someone else, and can be automatically time-stamped. It also can ensure that the original signed message arrived means that the sender cannot easily repudiate it later.
Where electronic signature cannot be used &ndash
- Negotiable instruments such as a promissory note or a bill of exchange other than a cheque
- Powers of attorney
- Trust deeds
- Wills and any other testamentary disposition
- Real estates contracts such as leases or sale agreements
