The ISO 9001 standard can be used in conjunction with ISO 9004 to establish a quality management system. The purpose of this document is to provide guidance to any organization on how to enhance their quality and increase the effectiveness of their quality management system. ISO 9004, in contrast to ISO 9001, is not meant for contractual, regulatory, or certification purposes. It should not be confused with ISO 9014, which is a common misspelling and does not exist, and was most recently modified in 2009 to conform to the 2008 edition of ISO 9001. It adheres to similar provisions as the ISO 9001 standards standard. The objective is to provide guidance on how to update and implement the procedures developed in accordance with ISO 9001.
