A hiring strategy is an innovative approach to selecting a candidate who can advance the organization toward its objectives. The best applicant may not always be hired based only on their qualifications. A person who has a variety of abilities that precisely match the open position or who has been suggested by a current employee frequently outperforms the more qualified applicant. Whether or not an applicant is the most qualified, the goal of strategic hiring is to select someone who fits the job description. For instance, a corporation may choose to recruit a candidate with friendly communication skills and a knack for building relationships for a sales manager position rather than one with greater qualifications. Qualification is important, of course, but in this instance, strategy is kept narrow.
